Dr Hugh Sharpe
Dentist
BDSc (WA)
Hugh was born in Perth, Western Australia. He obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science in 1985. Hugh is passionate about high-quality dentistry and preventative dentistry. He has special interests in endodontics, restorative dentistry and preventive dentistry.
Hugh’s dental experience includes 22 years in his private practice in Esperance, WA, tutoring 4th year dental students at the WA Dental School for one year and three years as a Dental Officer and Area Dental Officer in the WA School Dental Service. Hugh led the first dental and medical team to two tribal villages in Palawan in the South China Sea in 2004 and has organized the provision of dental and medical treatment during nine visits to rural villages of Vietnam and Cambodia.
Hugh married Phally Oun in 2017 after working in cooperation with Phally to provide voluntary dental care to people in need in Cambodia for periods of 2–4 weeks once a year from 2011 – 2016. Hugh responded to the request from his cousin, Domenic Sharpe, who founded CamKids in Cambodia to provide this help in Cambodia.
Hugh moved to Katanning in 2019 after the birth of his first child, Jasmine and the family have been residents of Katanning since 2019.
Hugh and Phally have two children, Jasmine (7) and Solomon (3).
Hugh’s interests outside dentistry are his family, helping Phally to grow organic fruit and vegetables, ducks and chickens, visiting the family’s beach house at Hopetoun, snow skiing, squash, running, fishing, kayaking and travelling to the Daintree forest, Cambodia or Japan, when he has the opportunity.
Phally Oun
Dental Practice Coordinator and Dental Assistant
Phally was born and spent her childhood at Baray, a small village 80 km south of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Phally attended high school to year 12 at Takeo, 4 km from Baray. Her father is a rice farmer. Her parents, most of her family and her extended family live in Baray.
Phally obtained her certificate in Dental Assisting from the International University in Phnom Penh in 2006.
Phally studied International Relations from 2013-2017 at Asean-European University in Phnom Penh.
Her positions included:
*Dental Assistant in the Paedodontic Department of the University of Health Sciences in Phnom Penh.
*President of the Cambodian Dental Assistants Association from 2013–2016.
*Dental Ambassador for the charitable organisation One2One Medical and Dental from 2009–2017. In this role Phally operated several dental clinics in Cambodia, including a remote mobile clinic, a clinic at a prison in Phnom Penh, a clinic for children in Phnom Penh, and a clinic for babies with cleft lip and palate.
*Teaching Dental Assistants for One2One Medical and Dental, the University of Puthisastra in Phnom Penh and Dili University in East Timor.
Phally resigned from her roles in Cambodia and married Hugh in 2017.
Phally’s interests outside of dentistry are her family and friends in Katanning, keeping in touch with her parents and family in Cambodia, growing organic vegetables in the backyard, trips to Cambodia, family holidays and long weekends at their beach house in Hopetoun, church and enjoying the company of friends.
Tanesha Woods
Dental Assistant and Receptionist
Tanesha was born in Katanning in 2008. She completed Year 12 in Katanning in 2025 and applied for a position as a dental assistant in December 2025. Tanesha’s ideal career was to become a qualified dental assistant, and she will commence the course to achieve the Certificate III in Dental Assisting in 2027.
Tanesha has a gentle and caring personality.
Tanesha’s interests include camping, hiking and going to the beach.
Melissa Williams
Dental Assistant and Receptionist
Melissa was born in Perth and completed school at Penrhos Ladies’ College. She then went to business college and obtained a Diploma in Business and Accounting in 1992. She was employed as a law clerk in a legal firm in Perth and over a period of 15 years her role evolved into being a paralegal, specialising in child abuse and family law. This work gave Melissa exceptional ability in understanding children.
Melissa and her family moved to their farm at Jingalup in 2007.
Melissa enjoys helping patients, is attentive to their requests and her engaging conversation puts them at ease.
She is married to Stacy and has three children. Her interests include helping Stacy at their farm, her three adult children and being a member of the Katanning and Districts Pony Club. She really loves her dog, Maggie.
Hsar Htoo
Dental Receptionist
Hsar was born on Christmas Eve (which basically makes her a walking holiday celebration). She is hard working and loves to connect with people.
Hsar has obtained Certificates II, III and IV in Business.
Hsar listens to people and ensures people feel heard, understood and helped.
Hsar’s interests include trying different foods and watching movies.
